The Greek
Lyceum of South Australia, Inc. is an
incorporated, non-profit Adelaide-based Greek-Australian school of Greek
dance and culture whose principal role is the fostering of Greek Dance and
Culture to South Australian children and young adults. Our mission is to
present and perpetuate the rich history and traditions of the songs, dances,
music and costumes of Greece to the greater public.
Since its inception in 1993, the school’s Artistic
Director, School Council, teaching staff and students have focused on carrying
out their mission to educate both Greek and non-Greek communities about the
richness of the Hellenic folk culture and heritage through staged performances,
dance workshops, lectures and exhibits.
The Greek Lyceum
of South Australia was incorporated in 2000.The School has developed and
advanced under the guidance and instruction of our acclaimed Artistic Director
Vasily Mouzakitis together with the School Council, to produce South Australia’s
premier Greek Dance School. We currently have approximately 80 students ranging
in age from 4 – 30.
The Greek
Lyceum’s repertoire encompasses a wide variety of Greek folk arts from all
regions of Greece, including those of Cyprus and those of communities of the
Greek Diaspora, past and present.
The Charter of
our Constitution states that we are a non-party political and non-party
religious organisation.

AIMS
The School’s Constitution states the Lyceum’s aims as follows :
The Greek Lyceum of SA is a Greek-Australian School of Greek Dance and Culture,
which aims to bring to Australian audiences the very best of traditional and
contemporary Greek cultural dance forms through its performance ensembles.
The Greek Lyceum of SA aims to redress the historical “loss” of Greek culture as
part of the migration process.
OBJECTIVES & PURPOSE
Furthermore, the School’s Constitution also states our Objectives and Purpose as
follows :
1. Promote the understanding and mutual respect for Greek-Australians living in
Australia, their traditions through the promotion of Greek cultural arts and
crafts.
2. Develop the Greek culture and to teach this culture to ensuing generations.
3. Diffuse and disseminate a knowledge and appreciation of dance and other
artistic activity by the printing, publication, issue and circulation of papers,
circulars, brochures and other literary and artistic matter, including musical
equipment, costumes and other merchandise likely to be required for the purpose
of the Lyceum.
4. Promote, hold and conduct social activities as may from time to time be
decided upon by the Committee of the Lyceum or by any Sub-Committee formed for
that purpose and acting under the direction of the Committee.
5. Establish cultural and educational ties with relevant and significant
establishments, governments and instrumental ties.
6. Adhere strictly at all times to these fundamental tenets :
a. The Lyceum is a voluntary democratic organisation, but participant members
must be active and be prepared to work towards the achievement of the Lyceum’s
objectives.
b. The Lyceum is a non-party political and non-party religious organisation and
will not involve itself in any type of activity at this level.
c. The Lyceum will not encourage, promote or develop dealings between itself and
foreign governments or instrumentalities excepting those that relate to matters
of cultural support and exchange.
7. Promote the touring of cultural exhibitions to festivals and to areas which
for reasons of distance are further disadvantaged in contacting their cultural
heritage.
8. Ensure that all public performances given are of the highest artistic
standard possible.
